Gordon Ramsay’s Plane Food at Heathrow Airport was my short pit stop before heading off on a trip to the Republic of Ireland. Having previously had up and down experiences at Gordon Ramsay’s other establishments, my expectations were somewhat apprehensive. Unfortunately, this visit was another disappointing let-down.

The restaurant’s modern interior caught my eye, with its sleek design and comfortable bench seating, setting the stage for a pleasant meal. However, the prices on the menu were staggering, especially for breakfast items. I decided to go all in and ordered the steak frites for a hefty £38, a price that instantly made me question my choice. After all, I could have had a delightful sandwich for just £26… the idiot sandwich. You must be an idiot to order that.

When my steak frites arrived, I was hopeful, but my enthusiasm quickly faded. The presentation was underwhelming, and upon taking my first bite, I found the steak to be overcooked—more medium than medium-rare—leaving it dryer than hoped and lacking in the rich flavour I expected. Cold tomatoes accompanied the dish, which only added to my disappointment. To make matters worse, the amount of juice flowing around the plate which was emanating from the steak showed it hadn’t been rested properly. Not good.

In an attempt to salvage my meal, I decided to treat myself to dessert and ordered the cheesecake. At £10, I was shocked to see such a tiny portion, and while the buttery biscuit base and the flavour of the blueberries were enjoyable, it hardly justified the cost.

When the bill arrived, my frustration reached its peak. I was stunned to discover a hidden cover charge of £1.50 and an additional 15% service charge applied to it. While the server offered to remove the cover charge, I opted to keep the service charge out of courtesy, despite feeling frustrated by these additional costs. Overall, my bill totalled £56.93, a price that felt unjustifiable given the lack of quality in the meal.

Reflecting on my experience, I felt disheartened by the overall lack of value at Gordon Ramsay Plane Food. I rated this experience a mere 3 out of 10, largely due to the poor presentation, lack of quality in the food, and the hidden charges that felt more like a scam than an honest dining experience.

In the end, I left feeling disappointed and wishing I had opted for a packed lunch instead. If you’re thinking about dining here, I’d advise you to reconsider and save your money for better options at the airport. Trust me, you’ll be glad you did.
