The White Hart
I Was DISAPPOINTED By This SUNDAY ROAST!
As I arrived to The White Hart in Sevenoaks – I was already in love with the exterior of the pub. With its stunning garden, numerous seating areas, and a children’s play area, the pub exuded a warmth that felt welcoming. On this lovely Sunday, I was excited to indulge in their renowned Sunday roast, especially with the menu boasting a variety of options, including gluten-free and vegetarian choices.
To kick things off, I ordered the scallops with pea puree, asparagus, crispy serrano ham, and lemon oil for my starter. The presentation was beautiful, with vibrant colours and a thoughtful arrangement. The scallops were incredibly creamy, and their flavours combined with the mint puree and the saltiness of the ham were simply divine. Although priced at £15.95, the quality made it worthwhile, and I felt a sense of satisfaction as I savoured each bite.
However, my enthusiasm took a hit when the main course arrived. I opted for the roast shoulder of lamb with rosemary red wine gravy, roast potatoes, cabbage, beans, and parsnip puree. While I was expecting a hearty dish, I found the portion size rather disappointing. The lamb was fatty and slightly overcooked, which made it less enjoyable than I had hoped. The gravy lacked richness, coming off as thin and uninspired. The roast potatoes, a staple of any Sunday roast, didn’t have the crispiness I crave. Despite the Yorkshire pudding being well-executed, it simply wasn’t enough to save the meal from falling flat.
To end on a sweeter note, I ordered the summer pudding with raspberry sauce and clotted cream for dessert. This dish redeemed my experience somewhat; it was beautifully presented, juicy, and the perfect balance of tart and sweet. The clotted cream, though small in portion, added a lovely touch, elevating the dessert experience.
Reflecting on my visit, I must admit the pub has a lot going for it: the charming design, layout, and attentive service are commendable. Despite the let-down of the main course, I would still consider returning for a drink, enjoying the pleasant surroundings and potentially giving another meal a try. My final bill came to £53.60, and while I appreciate the lovely starter and delightful dessert, I ultimately felt let down by the main course and felt it was overpriced. I would rate my experience a mere 5.5 out of 10. So, while I may have been disappointed this time, The White Hart still holds the potential for a better experience in the future.
I rated it 5.5/10
