Miller & Carter

This £66.50 SUNDAY ROAST Was A MAJOR DISAPPOINTMENT!

I recently visited Miller & Carter in Worcester Park to try their Sunday Sharing Board, a £66.50 platter featuring chicken, lamb rump, and rib eye steak, a new addition to their menu, one that is no doubt going to be popular ahead of this Christmas. I was eager to see if it was worth the hefty price tag, as the food selection seemed promising with roast meats and classic sides.

The portion size certainly didn’t disappoint. The board came with crispy potatoes, sautéed greens, mashed potatoes topped with Camembert, and Yorkshire puddings, accompanied by unlimited beef dripping gravy. Despite the impressive presentation, the quality fell short. The rib-eye, which I ordered medium rare, was flavourful but overcooked, lacking the tenderness I expected. The lamb, ordered pink, had minimal flavour, and the chicken was on the dry side.

The sides were just as underwhelming. The crispy potatoes, although well-cooked, lacked seasoning, and the sautéed greens were bland. The Camembert mash had potential, but the cheese didn’t quite elevate the dish as I hoped. The only highlight was the rich, savoury beef dripping gravy, which added depth to the dish. I think if you are going to claim to have a Sunday roast – you need to have roast potatoes. It’s sacrilege to basically fry new potatoes as a replacement.

While Miller & Carter are known for their steaks, I couldn’t help but feel that their Sunday Sharing Board didn’t deliver the value promised. The hefty price, along with the lack of flavour and texture in the meats, makes this dish hard to recommend. I would have preferred if the restaurant had focused on improving the seasoning and cooking techniques for the meats. The generous portions couldn’t compensate for the lack of finesse.

In summary, the Sunday Sharing Board at £66.50 didn’t live up to expectations. I would suggest sticking to their signature steaks instead of this lacklustre roast offering. Although the gravy stood out, it wasn’t enough to justify the cost. This experience has left me feeling that Miller & Carter’s regular steak menu is a better option for both quality and value.

Hmmm 3/10
