The Olive Branch Country Inn

Reviewing an EXPENSIVE SUNDAY ROAST!

Nestled in the picturesque village of Clipsham in Rutland, The Olive Branch pub is a hidden gem that offers a unique blend of history and culinary excellence. After a three-year closure, this pub was lovingly revived by three local residents who have poured their hearts into creating a welcoming space. The moment I stepped inside, I was captivated by its charm, from the beautiful garden area adorned with gazebos to the shop brimming with local produce. The Olive Branch, once a Michelin-starred establishment, radiates warmth and community spirit.

The atmosphere is simply delightful, with heaters in the garden making it a perfect spot to relax, whether indoors or out. The menu is a true reflection of their dedication to quality. With set lunch options priced at £35 for two courses or £42.50 for three, you can indulge in exquisite dishes like the 28-day mature beef sirloin or the tender pork short loin. I opted for the beef sirloin, and it did not disappoint – the cauliflower cheese was a delightful addition that I had to request, even though it wasn’t listed on the menu.

As my meal arrived, I was struck by the presentation. The roast beef was beautifully plated, surrounded by vibrant carrots, broccoli, and Yorkshire pudding. The beef itself was juicy and bursting with flavour, cooked to perfection in a medium-rare style that left me in awe. Those roast potatoes, likely cooked in duck fat, were reminiscent of Heston Blumenthal’s perfect roast potatoes—simply divine. The Yorkshire pudding was sweet and well-seasoned, and the red cabbage added a rich, wine-infused note that tied everything together beautifully.

To accompany my meal, I savoured the creamy cauliflower cheese, oozing with rich cheese, which paired perfectly with the robust gravy. The attentive staff ensured my gravy bowl was never empty, and their service was prompt and friendly, adding to the overall experience.

To finish, I treated myself to the sweet Woodruff panna cotta, served alongside lemon curd ice cream and honeycomb. The panna cotta was silky smooth and infused with vanilla, while the lemon curd ice cream brought a nostalgic sweetness that lingered long after the meal was over. This dessert truly elevated the entire dining experience.

As I left The Olive Branch, I couldn’t help but feel grateful for the dedication shown by the owners and staff. Their commitment to quality and the local community shines through in every detail, from the beautifully decorated barn area to the efficient handling of requests. I wholeheartedly give The Olive Branch a perfect 10 out of 10. I encourage you to visit this stunning pub, support local businesses, and experience a Sunday roast that you won’t forget. Your taste buds will thank you!

WOW! Top marks 10/10!
