Tayyabs

Reviewing LONDON'S MOST FAMOUS CURRY HOUSE!

If you’re searching for a truly unforgettable dining experience in London, look no further than Tayyabs in Whitechapel. Established in 1972, this family-owned curry house has built a stellar reputation for its delicious meats and vibrant atmosphere.

Walking into Tayyabs, you immediately notice its spaciousness, boasting a seating capacity of around 400, which is impressive for such a popular spot. Despite its size, I recommend booking a table in advance, especially on weekends, as it can get very busy.

As I settled into my seat, I was excited to dive into the menu. The prices were surprisingly reasonable for the quality offered, with dishes like chicken tikka priced at just £5.15 and lamb chops for £9.95. For my meal, I decided on the lamb chops, karahi chicken, sag aloo (spinach with potato), garlic naan, and pilau rice. The anticipation built as I waited for my food, especially for the lamb chops, which I had heard so much about.

When my meal arrived, I was immediately struck by the beautiful presentation of the lamb chops. Each chop was coated perfectly, showcasing those enticing griddle marks. Taking my first bite was a revelation—the meat was succulent, tender, and infused with a delightful charcoal flavour. The marinade added just the right amount of heat, making it one of the best lamb chops I’ve ever had. The portion size was generous, and the accompanying onions enhanced the overall flavour beautifully.

Next, I turned my attention to the karahi chicken. It was juicy and perfectly cooked, enveloped in a rich, aromatic sauce that complemented the dish perfectly. The sag aloo, with its deep green colour and robust spinach flavour, was a standout as well. I loved the hint of heat that balanced the dish nicely. However, I found the garlic naan a bit too overpowering for my taste; next time, I might opt for a plain naan to let the other flavours shine.

Reflecting on the entire experience, I can confidently say that Tayyabs exceeded my expectations. The service was attentive, and the overall atmosphere was lively and welcoming. I left feeling completely satisfied, and with a total bill of £41.20, I felt I had enjoyed exceptional value for such high-quality food.

In conclusion, if you’re a fan of curry, I highly recommend Tayyabs, particularly for those incredible lamb chops.

A very easy 9/10 but I’ve heard things differ at weekends.

I LOVED it! 9/10
