The Witchery

Reviewing ONE OF SCOTLAND'S MOST EXPENSIVE RESTAURANTS - THE WITCHERY!

I recently had the chance to visit The Witchery, one of Edinburgh’s most renowned fine-dining spots, known for its stunning historic setting and exceptional food. Located right off the Royal Mile, the atmosphere was as captivating as the menu, which definitely had me intrigued.

I kicked off my meal with a haggis starter, which, as a Scottish classic, I had to try. It came beautifully presented, featuring Portobello haggis, served with sweet pineapple chutney on the side. The haggis was wonderfully tender, with a rich, earthy flavour that had just the right amount of peppery kick. The pineapple chutney added an unexpected touch of sweetness, which balanced out the savoury flavours perfectly. I’ve had haggis before, but this version stood out—it was light and a step above your average plate.

For the main course, I opted for the grilled lemon sole with a touch of avruga caviar which is not true caviar, more of a substitute, a first on the channel. The fish was cooked to perfection, flaky and moist, with a slight char that added depth. The caviar, though not the traditional kind, complemented the dish well, giving it a luxurious edge. It was everything you’d expect from a top-tier dish—elegant, delicate, and a true highlight of the meal. Every bite was a reminder of why this restaurant has earned such rave reviews.

Of course, with fine dining comes a hefty price tag. The meal, including dessert and service charge, pushed the bill over £100. While that’s not exactly pocket change, the experience itself made it worthwhile. The food, the service, and the atmosphere all worked in perfect harmony to create an unforgettable dining experience.

I’ve got to say, the Witchery offers more than just a meal—it’s an experience. The impeccable service and exceptional food made every penny worth it, and it’s definitely a place I’d recommend for anyone looking to celebrate a special occasion in Edinburgh. All in all, I’d give it a solid 9 out of 10. The Witchery is the perfect spot for a luxurious and memorable meal in the heart of the city.

I LOVED it! 9/10
