Darkey Kelly’s
This Was An EMOTIONAL FOOD REVIEW For Me!
On my last quest in Dublin, I made a nostalgic stop at Darky Kelly’s, a pub that holds a special place in my heart. This pub, rich in history and charm, offers more than just great food – it’s a gateway to the essence of Dublin itself. The atmosphere, with its cosy seating, rustic parasols, and barrels of Guinness lining the walls, instantly invites you in. There’s something about the buzz of the crowd, the warmth of the staff that makes the experience that much better!
As it’s my last review in Ireland, I decided to go all in on Guinness. I ordered a very refreshing pint of the black stuff and was in the mood for something hearty, so I went with the beef and Guinness stew. It arrived in a deep bowl, accompanied by soda bread and champ mash. As soon as the server placed it down, the aroma of the stew hit me – a rich, comforting scent that made me excited to dig in. The beef was incredibly tender, practically melting in my mouth, while the gravy, infused with the deep flavours of Guinness, wrapped everything together in a warm, savoury embrace. The mash, creamy with a touch of pepper and spring onions, perfectly complemented the dish, reminding me of the kind of slow-cooked meals my dad used to make. Every bite felt like home.
For dessert, I couldn’t resist the Guinness chocolate mousse. Presented in a Guinness glass, it was velvety smooth, sweet with just a hint of bitterness from the Guinness. It was the perfect blend of flavours, balanced with a dollop of vanilla ice cream on the side. The mousse was more than just dessert; it was an indulgent, satisfying finish to an already remarkable meal.
Reflecting on the experience, I couldn’t help but feel a sense of gratitude – for the food, the memories it evoked and brought me back to my Irish roots which I’m very proud of. It was one of those meals that linger with you, long after the last bite. I left the pub with a full stomach and a heart full of nostalgia, already thinking about my next visit.
I LOVED it! 8.5/10
