The Black Forge
Reviewing CONOR MCGREGOR'S PUB!
Given who the owner is, I won’t be giving this place a bad review. Obviously, I am kidding…
Visiting Conor McGregor’s pub, The Black Forge had been on my list for a very long time. Located about four miles from the bustling centre of Dublin, this pub promises a unique atmosphere and a taste of the famed fighter’s personality. As soon as I stepped inside, I was struck by the spaciousness of the place, featuring a lively bar area and a large restaurant with an inviting open-plan kitchen. The buzz in the air, mixed with the enticing aroma of food being prepared, instantly set a warm and welcoming tone. One my favourite interiors I’ve seen in a pub for a while.
I couldn’t resist ordering a Forged Irish Stout, priced at €6. With an ABV of 4.2%, it boasted a creamy texture that was surprisingly lighter than Guinness, making it a delightful choice to start my evening. While sipping my drink, I explored the menu, which featured an impressive array of options. From comforting soups to tantalising bao buns, I was genuinely impressed by the variety. The prices seemed quite reasonable for Dublin, which added to the overall charm of the pub. I decided to indulge in some hot and sticky wings (€14) and a main course of Slaney valley lamb (€32).
When the hot and sticky wings arrived, I was taken aback by the generous portion size. The wings were coated in a fiery sauce that offered a perfect balance of sweetness and heat, enhanced by the addition of sesame seeds. A side of blue cheese sauce provided a creamy contrast that made each bite even more enjoyable. The presentation was delightful, and I relished every moment of this first course.
Next, I was eager to try the lamb dish. When it arrived, I was greeted by a beautifully plated meal featuring butter-roasted lamb, served with a rich red wine reduction and mint emulsion. The lamb was incredibly tender and flavourful, with the red wine reduction adding a depth that truly complemented the dish.
Throughout the evening, I was impressed by the attentive service. I’d like to give a shout-out to Sharon, who made sure my dining experience was nothing short of excellent. The kitchen staff also deserve recognition for their high level of cooking. When the bill came to €52 for both the wings and lamb, I felt it was a great value for the quality of food I had enjoyed.
As I left The Black Forge, I couldn’t help but feel satisfied. The combination of fantastic food, pleasant ambiance, and friendly service created a memorable experience. I would confidently rate this pub a solid nine out of ten, and I highly recommend you visit for the lamb and stout. Well done to Conor, I know he’s a marmite character… some love him and some don’t but he’s created a fantastic pub with excellent character but most of all… he’s got a fantastic chef working in that kitchen.
I LOVED it! 9/10
