Billingsgate Market Cafe

Reviewing BILLINGSGATE MARKET CAFE at 3AM!

Visiting Billingsgate Market at 3 AM for breakfast was an experience I won’t soon forget. As I stepped into the largest fish market in London, I felt a buzz of excitement in the air, despite the early hour. Billingsgate is known for its fresh seafood, and I was eager to sample the offerings. Although the café doesn’t open until 4 AM, I decided to wander around for about an hour… until it opened. It was a chilly morning so I headed back to the car once or twice.

After a short wait, I made my way into the café, where I was greeted by a warm and lively ambience despite the time of the morning. I ordered the £10 set breakfast, which promised a hearty selection of classic items. I was particularly excited about the fresh scallops and smoked bacon roll… it looked truly excellent.

The breakfast arrived —a generous mountain of beans, two perfectly cooked eggs, succulent sausages, crispy hash browns, toast, and, of course, the star of the show: the scallops. The moment I took my first bite, I was in heaven. The scallops were wonderfully creamy, complementing the smokiness of the bacon perfectly. It was a combination I had never thought to try at such an early hour, but it turned out to be a match made in culinary heaven.

As I savoured each bite, I was struck by the quality of the ingredients. The Cumberland sausage was meaty and bursting with flavour, while the hash browns were delightfully crispy. Even the toast was of excellent quality, served with a generous portion of beans. I couldn’t help but appreciate how this meal was a fantastic value for the price I paid.

After breakfast, I took some time to explore the market further. I was amazed by the wide variety of fish available, each stall more colourful and vibrant than the last. The historical memorabilia scattered throughout the café added a nostalgic touch, reminding me of the rich history of this place. The sense of community among the vendors and customers made the experience feel special.

Reflecting on my visit, I can confidently say that Billingsgate Market is worth waking up early for. The unique atmosphere, the quality of the breakfast, and the excitement of being in such a lively market all made for an unforgettable experience. I would rate the breakfast a solid 9.5 out of 10, not just for the delicious food but for the sheer joy of being there. I can’t wait to return, perhaps to buy some fresh scallops to take home. If you’re looking for a unique breakfast experience filled with fresh fish and vibrant energy, I highly recommend a visit to Billingsgate Market and the cafe!

I LOVED it! 9.5/10
