Duck & Waffle

Reviewing the UK'S HIGHEST RESTAURANT!

I can’t believe I found myself at the Duck and Waffle, the highest restaurant in the UK, at 2 am! Standing 40 floors high, it offers breathtaking views of London that I had to experience. As I arrived at Liverpool Street Station at 1 am, the excitement mixed with a bit of nervousness about the heights filled the air. The idea of dining at one of only two 24-hour restaurants in London was thrilling!

The elevator ride was a whirlwind. It sped upwards, and as I stepped into the restaurant, I was greeted by a warm, casual atmosphere despite the late hour. The dim lighting added to the ambiance, making everything feel a bit more intimate. I couldn’t help but admire the stunning skyline, featuring iconic landmarks like the Gherkin and Tower Bridge. The layout of the restaurant was impressive, with the bar area inviting and the dining space beautifully designed.

Perusing the menu, I was drawn to the signature dish, duck and waffles, priced at £26, alongside barbecue spiced crispy pig ears for £9. The prices seemed steep, but I was here for a unique experience. As I placed my order, I felt a sense of anticipation. I couldn’t wait to taste the intriguing combination of flavours.

When the pig’s ears arrived, they were presented in a peculiar manner – a brown paper bag. The first bite revealed a delightful mix of smokiness, saltiness, and a hint of sweetness that kept me wanting more. Then came the duck and waffles. The dish was a feast for the eyes, featuring crispy duck, a fried duck egg, and a drizzle of mustard maple syrup. I was surprised by how well these flavours melded together, creating something truly memorable. The duck was tender, and the richness of the egg added a perfect touch.

I found myself enchanted by the atmosphere. The stunning views made every moment feel special. I even ordered dessert—a lemon meringue tart with lemon thyme ice cream—hoping to balance the sweetness from earlier. This dish was just as delightful, with crunchy meringue and a refreshing tartness that danced on my palate.

Reflecting on my experience at Duck and Waffle, I realised it was more than just a meal; it was an adventure. The combination of extraordinary views, delicious food, and a vibrant atmosphere made it an unforgettable evening. I would rate this restaurant between 8.5 to 9 out of 10. Yes, it’s on the pricier side, but if you’re looking for something special in London, I wholeheartedly recommend it. I can’t wait to return without a camera next time!

I LOVED it! 8.5/10
