Knight’s Fish & Chips Est 1909
Reviewing the UK'S 2024 BEST FISH AND CHIP RESTAURANT!
I had the pleasure of visiting Knight’s Fish and Chips in Glastonbury, a spot that has earned the title of the UK’s best fish and chip restaurant for 2024. As I approached, the excitement was palpable. Glastonbury is famous not just for its music festival but now also for this award-winning eatery. I’ve had my share of fish and chips at renowned places like Murgatroyds in Leeds and Trenchers in Whitby, setting high expectations for this visit.
The outdoor seating area immediately caught my eye, filled with pride in the awards displayed around the restaurant. It felt welcoming and made me eager to dive into the menu. I ordered the signature dish, which included house chips, home-made mushy peas, bread and butter, tartar sauce, and a pot of tea, for £15.50. I couldn’t resist adding some home-made onion rings, a fish cake, and battered black pudding, plus a delightful apple and blackberry crumble with cream, bringing my total to £31.60. The menu was diverse, featuring gluten-free options and a variety of drinks, which is always a bonus. It’s safe to say, I’m going to need to be hungry in order to finish this one!
When my meal arrived, the presentation was beautiful, and the portion sizes were just right albeit I think the fish was a tad small. I started with the chips, which were perfectly golden and had that delightful crunch. Dipping them in the rich, fruity curry sauce was a treat. Next, I savoured the cod, which boasted a flaky texture enveloped in a light, crispy batter. The flavour was incredible! The home-made fish cake was good, though it could have been a touch moister, but I loved the unique experience of trying the battered black pudding.
The mushy peas were light and flavourful which I do not usually say about mushy peas, and the tartar sauce was clearly home-made, adding a lovely zing to the dish. It struck me how reasonable the prices were, considering the quality of the ingredients and the generous portions, especially for a takeaway.
For dessert, the apple and blackberry crumble was the perfect ending. The sweetness of the fruit contrasted beautifully with the crunchy crumble, and the cream was just right for a warm day. I found myself pleasantly full yet completely satisfied with the meal.
Overall, Knight’s Fish and Chips truly lived up to its reputation. I would rate my experience a remarkable 9.5 out of 10, reflecting both the quality of the food and its excellent value. I wholeheartedly recommend you visit this gem in Glastonbury. You won’t just enjoy a meal; you’ll experience a true taste of what makes British fish and chips so beloved. Thank you for joining me on this culinary adventure, and I can’t wait to share more reviews with you soon!
I LOVED it! 9.5/10
