Star Bar Glasgow
Reviewing the CHEAPEST PUB in BRITAIN! £4 FOR 3 COURSES!
This was a tear-jerker. I recently visited the Star Bar in Glasgow, a cosy local pub that offers an incredible deal – a full three-course meal for just £4. Finding that value in 2024 Britain is incredibly unusual. When I first heard about it, I couldn’t wait to see what they were serving, and I was not disappointed. The Star Bar has a welcoming vibe, with friendly staff and a warm atmosphere that immediately made me feel at home with the locals. I arrived dead on 12pm… it was already packed. Good start.
The meal begins with a classic vegetable soup. It’s a simple dish, but the flavours are rich and comforting, making it the perfect start to the meal, especially on a chilly day. The soup is hearty, with chunks of lentils and a smooth broth that’s full of natural taste. It’s the kind of soup that needs no seasoning, and it’s satisfying enough to enjoy on its own.
Next up was the main course – a generous portion of chicken casserole. This dish really stood out. The chicken was tender and plentiful, with both shredded pieces and larger chunks that made the casserole hearty and filling. The accompanying vegetables – carrots, marrofat peas (which brought back incredible memories with my mother and father), and boiled potatoes – were all cooked to perfection. The gravy was rich, adding depth to the dish, and I could easily see why this was the pub’s special. It was comfort food at its finest, offering great value for the price. The portion sizes were more than enough, and it really filled me up.
For dessert, I opted for the classic choice of jelly and ice cream. While simple, it was the perfect light finish to the meal, with the sweet, tangy jelly and creamy ice cream balancing each other out nicely.
Throughout the meal, I couldn’t help but be impressed by the value. The quality of the food was excellent for the price, and the portion sizes were generous. The service was top-notch too – the staff were friendly and efficient, adding to the overall pleasant experience. A big shout-out to May who was lovely.
If you’re ever in Glasgow, I highly recommend visiting the Star Bar. Not just for it’s value but it’s warm comforting vibe. A review that will live long in the memory – a very emotional one for me.
WOW! Top marks 10/10!
