Prime
The MOST EXPENSIVE STEAK I've Ever REVIEWED!
I visited Prime, a steakhouse in Chandler’s Cross, known for premium cuts of beef and stylish interiors. The focus of my meal was the Porterhouse steak, a 900-gram cut that offers the best of both worlds: tender fillet on one side and flavour-packed sirloin on the other. I’m not sure Prime will forgive me for this but it almost looked like an upmarket Miller & Carter.
The steak was cooked to medium-rare with a beautiful sear, locking in the juices. While the sirloin side was slightly chewy, the fillet was exceptionally tender and bursting with flavour. The seasoning was spot on, highlighting the natural quality of the beef. Each bite showcased the chef’s attention to detail and skill in handling this prized cut.
To complement the steak, I chose triple-cooked chips and cheesy broccoli. The chips were perfectly crispy on the outside and fluffy inside, a textbook example of this side dish done right. The broccoli, however, was slightly overshadowed by the cheese, which dominated the dish. I also ordered two sauces: a peppercorn sauce that was creamy but could have used more depth and a Stilton sauce that had a balanced richness and a pleasing tang.
The restaurant itself exudes an upscale yet welcoming atmosphere. The brickwork, stylish decor, and attentive staff create an inviting space. Prime clearly takes pride in sourcing their steaks, with a focus on grass-fed cattle from premium farms, and the care shows on the plate.
The Porterhouse steak was priced at £75, and the total bill, including sides and sauces, came to £109. While the meal didn’t quite reach the heights of some other high-end steakhouses, such as Hawksmoor, it was still a strong contender.
Prime delivers on its promise of quality steak and a memorable dining experience. Despite minor imperfections, it’s a place worth visiting if you’re looking for well-prepared steak in an elegant setting. The fillet alone might be reason enough to return. I’m going to give Prime a 7.5/8 out of 10.
I rated it 7.5/10
