Pasture
Reviewing PASTURE - Is It The BEST RESTAURANT in WALES?
I recently had the pleasure of dining at PASTURE, a restaurant in Cardiff that comes highly recommended, and let me tell you, it lives up to the hype! Nestled in the heart of the city, this gem not only offers exceptional food but also boasts a vibrant atmosphere that makes for an unforgettable dining experience. As I approached the restaurant, the charming exterior set the tone for what was to come.
Because of the noise levels inside, I opted to sit on the terrace, soaking in the pleasant weather while enjoying the lovely views of Cardiff Castle nearby. While the terrace menu is somewhat limited, I was excited to discover that PASTURE is included in the world’s top 101 steakhouses—a remarkable feat!
After browsing the menu, I quickly zeroed in on some standout dishes. The short rib croquettes with aioli, priced at £6, were a must-try, as were the roasted sugar snaps with cashew yogurt and citrus salt for £7.95. I also ordered the steak with peppercorn sauce and fries, which cost £19.50, and decided to treat my cameraman to the Thai steak noodle salad, also priced at £19.50.
The atmosphere was incredibly relaxed just as we hit the start of summer, and when the food arrived, it was a feast for the eyes. The presentation of the sourdough bread, croquettes, and sugar snap peas was stunning. Each bite of the sugar snaps was a delightful blend of smokiness, heat, and sweetness. The short rib croquettes were everything I had hoped for—succulent and bursting with flavour.
When it came to the main dishes, I was eager to taste the Thai steak noodle salad. The tender steak combined beautifully with the crunchy salad, elevated by a flavourful Sichuan sauce. However, as I cut into my steak, I noticed it was cooked medium rather than the medium-rare I had requested. While the peppercorn sauce lacked the punch I was hoping for, this was just a minor disappointment in an otherwise fantastic meal.
Overall, my experience at PASTURE was nothing short of remarkable. The service was attentive, and the ambience was perfect for a leisurely lunch. I’d like to extend my thanks to those who recommended this restaurant to me—it truly was a delightful outing. The short rib croquettes earned high praise, and the sourdough bread with house-made salted butter was simply divine. While the steak and fries received slightly lower scores due to the doneness and the peppercorn sauce, I still left feeling satisfied and eager to return.
In conclusion, I would give PASTURE an impressive 9.5 out of 10. If you’re in Cardiff, I encourage you to visit and enjoy a meal that celebrates incredible flavours and a warm atmosphere. You won’t regret it!
I LOVED it! 9/10
