Fallow

Reviewing the FAMOUS FALLOW RESTAURANT!

This is the big one. Fallow is the most talked about restaurant in the whole of London. Over 20 million people tune into their social media platforms every month to get a glimpse at the many cooking tutorials and chef’s point of view during service. I’ve been extremely excited to give this a go for a while now and also a tad apprehensive for what I’m going to order. Located in Haymarket, a stones throw away from Piccadilly Circus, Fallow concentrates on modern British cuisine and highlights bold flavours with a focus on conscious usage of British produce.

I booked for opening time and sat on a lovely terrace with heaters overhead. The restaurant is wonderful, truly wonderful. Open plan kitchen so you can watch the chef’s working away – you can also sit at the bar or like me, in the terrace. Fallow are known for their small plates, it’s the perfect restaurant to go with a group or even just a couple as you can share all types of dishes.

After much deliberation and apprehension, I ordered the Beef ribs (£13.00), Corn ribs (£8.00), the Smoked cod’s head (£28.00), Pink fir potatoes (£7.00).

The server explained to me that the food comes as and when it’s ready and up first were the corn ribs. Wow. How can you make corn taste as good as that? Fallow introduced the corn ribs to their restaurant when they first opened in 2019 and due to their obviously popularity, other restaurants started copying them… I don’t blame them. A hint of spice with the kombu seasoning, Very moreish and highly addictive – a superstar dish. The ribs were incredible. I’ve never seen meat fall of a bone like I did here, the texture of the meat was to die for. I know the phrase “melt in your mouth” is overused (particularly by myself) but these ribs were the upper echelon for tenderness. Finally… *gulp* the Smoked cod’s head. Not the prettiest to look at but then again, neither am I. Glazed with Fallow’s sriracha sauce and leek oil, the flavour combination was out of this world. I was mesmerised by the level of quality on show as well as the sheer amount of meat, easily enough for two people to share. The server did mention that you could eat the tongue, I decided to pass on this occasion. The pink fir potatoes were excellent, a strong hint of garlic.

Do I have enough room for dessert? Not really but I had to give it a go. I ordered English strawberries custard cream cake with nettle matcha (£14.00). The presentation of the dessert was absolutely outstanding. The sorbet was nice and light, on a bed of crumbs and strawberries but the cake was exceptional. The right amount of sweetness.

The service at Fallow is absolutely exceptional. The server, Joe, was incredibly knowledgeable, explained all of the dishes to me and went that extra mile which makes your experience even more delightful.

Total cost of the meal: £74.00 + service charge (also includes a bottle of water).

Star of the show: Everything. Food and service exceptional. Corn ribs were my favourite dish.

Would I recommend it? In a heartbeat.

WOW! Top marks 10/10!
